about the artists
I am an artist, and like any artist my job is to share and interpret the experience of being human through art. Many times that experience is confusing, overwhelming, and messy. Sometimes it is beautiful. My paintings reflect that experience, as I cycle through the same process over and over for each one.
Every painting starts with a lived experience, something I see, hear, feel. I take note of it, document it with a photograph, and file it away for later. As I reflect on the experience an idea for an artwork will form in my mind; sometimes it’s a fully formed idea-a mental image of a finished painting-sometimes it’s a nebulous idea of where to start. I am part artist, part documentarian. I discover my artworks almost as much as I create them.
The finished product (sometimes the artworks are never finished, going through constant iterations) is a shambolic mess that portrays the thoughts and feelings of an artist coping with modern life and trying to deal with emotional and intellectual collapse that results from information overload and failed communication.
None of this gets created in a vacuum as I’m surrounded by a beautiful family that includes my wife and creative partner, Kim. Working with her generates a creative electricity that motivates and encourages as we both work in our shared studio and share the experience of navigating a complicated life together. One thing that we have discovered together is that creating is the best way to make sense of the world.
